We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Bowl*

*With apologies to Roy Scheider’s Capt. Brody
I’ve been dicking around with my diet these last few weeks since getting back from vacation. I haven’t been logging my calories or sticking to anything too strictly. It’s not that I’ve been over eating so much as a bit lax in my habits. And as a result I’ve [...]

Gentlemen… Start Your Chainsaws!

Workers are arriving as I write this, preparing to timber a tallish tree in our backyard. It’s an Australian brush cherry tree that’s as close to being a nuisance as I can call a living organism just doing its thing. From an actuarial standpoint, it’s a risk being situated much too close to the house, [...]

Two Years Ago Today

Not a lot going on and don’t really have a whole lot to say, so instead I send you for a ride in the not-so-wayback machine — August 8, 2004:
An excellent lazy Sunday morning included the decision to go see a matinee of “Collateral” at the Dome and gave way to a walk with Shadow [...]

Fetch As Fetch Can

In the aftermath of Ranger’s veterinary visit from hell Saturday I am compelled to balance out the dark with the light. So here’s a quick clip of Ranger’s genetic predisposition to fetch as if her tail hadn’t been sliced and she wasn’t wearing a big funnel around her neck.

It’s Hard Out There For A Pup

Can We Get A Do-Over?

Like most of our Saturdays we had things to do. Susan wanted to go to the bank and to Trader Joes and perhaps get her car washed. I wanted to get the grill’s propane tank refilled and maybe go for a bike ride and finish my freelance assignment.
First up on the agenda: taking Ranger in [...]

Harvest Time

Buster the tortoise, goes cuckoo for two things: hibiscus blooms and the blossoms that a plant called the snail vine produces (no doubt because the little purple flowers have something of a resemblance to snail shells… personally I don’t see it).
When my mom lived in Sherman Oaks she had a snail vine plant growing all [...]

Hey! Wanna Play?

Generally speaking the answer from Shadow and Pepper to Ranger’s robust requests for recreation is “Not really.” But at least they’re being polite.

Coming To You Live

Having given up yesterday afternoon, I’m now back at the transcribing desk, or rather a satellite version of it. Inside a few minutes earlier I mandated a change of place — namely an outdoor one. So having duly relocated the lapper and its webcam…

…to the patio table and cracked open a fresh Diet Pepsi Lime [...]
