Thanks for the update Rick. Just when I thought my commute route had finally been cleared, I found two new old trees kicked to the curb/gutter that hadn't been there before.

I can't even fathom why people wait so long to get rid of the things.

Just a follow up, the City did make it's tossed tree sweep down Dickens about 2 weeks ago. First one side, then the next a few days later, but of course some procrastinators tossed their trees after that took place. So, Dickens St in Sherman Oaks still has a few brown stragglers hanging around. I better get around to calling 311.

Also, I too wish the City kept the recycling program going for another week. That would have helped.

Thanks Tiffany! It's a shame the city didn't keep the recycling centers going an extra weekend, because it seemes as if a lot of people waited until this past few days to dump their trees and it wouldn't take me long to fill up my truck a second time.

That is such an awesome thing to do,
it sucks that the city makes it so difficult for others to do this,
but I'm happy that this angel went and "recycled" those poor dead trees!
Meanwhile, my living Christmas tree is still going strong, and better yet, will be free next year!

Good for you, Will.
At the tree recycling drop off lot on Verdugo in Burbank, I saw probably a dozen trees on the afternoon of Christmas Day! Can't imagine why anyone would be in such a hurry to end the season.
As a marauding teenager, I used to set them on fire in the middle of the street just to annoy the neighbors.

I remember the Furniture Flingers. I think they are worse than Tree Tossers. What is with that anyway? There was always some God-awful plaid or hideous floral patterned couch curbside on just about every other block. Seemed to be big in the Glendale neighborhood I lived in right after New Year's, like perhaps it was some Armenian tradition to fling out the old couch and bring in the new.

I remember when C. trees get set out in Korea Town some idiot would set them on fire....

I also used to remove the boards below the C. Trees and take out the big nail. That helps them to recycle the tree because the nail would ruin the tree shredder....

Anyway it is good to post about helping to save the city some money...

Good to hear from you Rick. I figured the city had some resource it could call on to pick up the trees, but given the state of L.A.'s budget woes, the way I see it is that every tosser is costing taxpayers money we don't have.

If I had my way I'd make operation of any retail Christmas tree lot in the city conditional upon it providing point-of-sale reinforcement of proper disposal methods and discouragement of dumping. It might not solve the problem, but it can't hurt.

I remember your post from last year and happy to see that you did it again. My street in Sherman Oaks (Dickens St) is especially rife with lazy tree tossers (not to mention the year around furniture flingers, thank god for 311!). I think we currently have about 10 trees on the street. I've taken to standing them up so at least they are more visible as they turn brown...

According to the operator at the LA City Public Works Call center (I just called right now), the City has special trucks which will sweep all areas of LA City for trees tossed to the curb. This service apparently starts today.
