And The Great Backyard Lizard Count Continues…

… in the front yard. Specifically with alligator lizard No. 2 found sunning itself Saturday afternoon on the sidewalk in front of the garage door — magnificent even with just the replacement stub of the lost tail it had been born with (click for the bigger picture):

It seemed pretty at ease and habituated, even flicking out its tongue at my hand a couple times, rather than just running away. Though it was probably fine where it was, I didn’t want to risk it getting troubled by passersby so I  caught it up and moved it under the giant  bougainvillea whose trimmings I had been in the process of sweeping up.

Lizard No. 1 was found last month in the kitchen. The Natural History Museum’s official count doesn’t begin until some time in May.
