It was on this day in 1961 that Hemingway took his Boss double-barreled 12-gauge out of a gun cabinet at his home in Ketchum, Idaho, loaded it, went to the foyer where he placed the business end of the weapon into his mouth and pulled the trigger.
That box of ancient magazines collected from my mother that I mentioned awhile ago, contains the cover of the Life magazine that came out 12 days later. Not the whole magazine. Just the cover and the special section in tribute to Hemingway:
