This Just In: The Mouse Is Out

On the off chance you’ve been wondering about the radio silence regarding the mouse in our care, it wasn’t because of anything bad that happened. On the contrary, the mouse rebounded to 100% and so should have been released as planned on New Year’s Eve night.

But with its astonishing recovery, I started having trouble letting it go. So instead it rang in the new year with us and then it sat on my desk all day yesterday — and all day today. Until Susan tactfully and mostly rhetorically reminded me that keeping the mouse as a pet shouldn’t really be an option, right?

Right.

So with all the cats wrangled inside a little early, at about 4:15 p.m. this afternoon I released the critter into the front yard ivy. At first it lingered, then charged forward and under the dense greenery out of sight.

Farewell, little mouse. I’m glad we could help out.
