So don’t use ‘em. Use a fold up bike suited to your needs. There are very many kinds, just like for non-folding bikes. Also, small diameter of wheels is irrelevant if you have gears. I have 16 inch wheels on mine, and six gears, and I ride on flats and hills all over the city at as almost wide a range of speeds as most bikes with larger wheels.

I’m trying to remember what the guy said, something like, “All bicyclists are pompous so-and-so’s,” or something like that. That’s when I knew to duck. Your response was good: you repeated what you understood he was trying to say, stated how illogical such a blanket statement about something you support could be, commented that it could have been an otherwise civil exchange of ideas, and requested that he get out of your face. The only response I could think of was, “Would you like ketchup with that?”, volleying one nutty response with another.

Otherwise, good times. It was amazing to find out 100,000+ shiny, happy people bicycling was something to be reckoned with.

I too used the light blue line and the bikes sort of crowded the train. My trusty fold up kick scooter was no problem to get on the train. However distances farther than a half mile is too far for a fold up kick scooter.

Of course, the ultimate goal should be, with enough transit connections and pedestrian improvements, and bike share/ bike rental / bike libraries everywhere, we will very rarely need to bring bikes on transit.

Also, if LA was building wide curb protected bike lanes instead of white paint lanes, this old man might be a biker himself.
