Sunflower Power

Wanted to give a visual update on the sunflowers we planted May 3 (click for the bigger picture).
The 10 I first posted about here are in the foreground — pretty much peat-pot-and-all transplanted into the ground in the same order as they were in that photo.
The rest behind were planted in a row and are growing at a much slower pace than the potted ones, only one of which didn’t make it. I thought the same fate in store for the seed in the pot front and center, but after getting munched on by a slug, it seems as if the late-bloomer might be making a comeback.
I’m rooting for it.

Nice! Why do everyone’s plants seem to grow faster than mine?
Also — Do you think I could grow a sunflower in a container on my balcony?

Ha Siel! I was just thinking I wish mine would grow FASTER.
If you’ve got good sun exposure on your balcony you should be able to get them growing. What I’ve found more important than sun even is water. I water mine daily to make sure the soil stays very moist.
