Caminata Loca
Posted by Will under adventure, los angeles, outdoors, updated
Barring significant and steady rainfall tomorrow and looking for one last looooong pre-marathon conditioning walk, I’m seriously considering setting out super early and making Wednesday’s morning commute from Silver lake to El Segundo entirely on foot.
Should it not be raining and I somehow keep common sense at bay I expect I’ll be following alongside the tire treads of my established bike route, the distance of which totals 15.6 miles. Hoping for a pace maintained in the 3.5 mph range, I should be on the road about five hours… which means I’ll need to have feet on the pavement by 4 a.m. if I’m going to get to work on time.
And I thought the 110 was slow?
UPDATE (7:26p.m.): I got home a few minutes ago and reports of my motivation for this endeavor have been greatly exaggerated. I’m bushed at the present and the thought of getting up at 3 a.m. to walk five hours and then work eight hours and then mass-transit it home… inĀ a word (or two): ain’t happening.

Holy moly! I hope you’ve got a bus schedule at the ready if you run into any trouble.

Definitely a good idea, Cybele. But this to me is no crazier than when my final training run prior to us doing the 2003 marathon together. I got up at 4 a.m. one day that final week and was all set to do a 20-mile bike ride and then walk the 12 miles to work at the zoo from Sherman Oaks followed by walking it home.
Of course all that walking never happened after I irreparably flatted about 16-miles into the bike ride and had to push the bike the rest of the way home, making myself too late to walk to work and then too frustrated to walk home.
With the Sunset Boulevard walk of a couple weeks ago a success and no mechanical components to fail me tomorrow I’m feeling pretty confident I can get there without relying on the MTA.

I would really like to talk to you about Gateway Animal Hospital. I believe they killed my cat — or at the very least, are guilty of gross negligence. I hate to bother you but I saw your post up. My number (I just moved from NYC) is [redacted]. I am considering legal action against them and would very much like to talk to you. My best, Alex.

Hi Alexandra, I removed your phone number from your comment for privacy issues, but I noted it offline and will definitely give you a call this evening if not sooner.
